I. Details of the event/activity
The title of the seminar I attended was "Deep Dive: Career Path for Cybersecurity." This seminar focused on understanding the path towards diving into a cybersecurity career in the IT industry. It was organized by the League of Information Technology Students from the University of the East-Caloocan Campus and was held on November 16, 2024. The master speaker for the seminar was Prof. Keinaz Domingo.
II. Reflections on the webinar/activity give rise to (learnings)
The seminar provided a comprehensive overview of the cybersecurity field, highlighting the importance of cybersecurity in today's digital age. I learned about various career paths within cybersecurity, including roles such as security analyst, penetration tester, and cybersecurity consultant. Prof. Keinaz Domingo emphasized the skills and certifications needed to excel in these roles, such as knowledge of network security and ethical hacking and obtaining certifications like CISSP and CEH. Additionally, the seminar shed light on the current trends and challenges in cybersecurity, such as the rise of cyber threats and the need for continuous learning and adaptation.
III. Reflections on possibilities on implementing some of the webinar input on a practical level (practical application of learnings)
One of my key takeaways from the seminar was the importance of hands-on experience in cybersecurity. To implement this, I plan to engage in practical exercises such as setting up a home lab to practice network security and ethical hacking techniques. Additionally, I will seek internships or volunteer opportunities in cybersecurity to gain real-world experience. The seminar also highlighted the value of continuous learning, so I intend to enroll in online courses and pursue relevant certifications to enhance my knowledge and skills in cybersecurity.
IV. Positive feedback (on the event organization)
The event was well-organized and informative. The organizers ensured that the seminar covered a wide range of topics relevant to cybersecurity careers. The speaker, Prof. Keinaz Domingo, was knowledgeable and engaging, providing valuable insights and practical advice. The event also included interactive sessions where participants could ask questions and engage in discussions, which enhanced the learning experience.
V. Suggestions for improvements to be made/consider for future activities
While the seminar was highly informative, one area for improvement could be the inclusion of more hands-on workshops or demonstrations. Practical sessions where participants can apply what they have learned in real-time would be beneficial. Additionally, providing resources or follow-up materials, such as slides or reading lists, would help participants further explore the topics discussed. Finally, incorporating networking opportunities, such as breakout sessions or networking events, could help participants connect with industry professionals and peers.
