Reflection Report Regional Title: “RAITE2024: Navigating the AI-Driven Future: Education, Ethics and Innovation”

I. Details of the Event/Activity

On November 4, 2024, I attended a seminar organized by the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE) at 8:00 AM. The seminar aimed to provide insights into the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the challenges associated with its adoption in various sectors, particularly in education. The event featured three distinguished plenary speakers: Dr. Ace C. Lagman, Senior Director of the College of Computer Studies and Multimedia Arts at FEU Institute of Technology; Prof. Edwin De Guzman, an E-learning Specialist at the University of Santo Tomas; and Dr. Enrique D. Festijo, a faculty member handling Graduate Programs at the Technological Institute of the Philippines, Manila. Each speaker shared their expertise on AI’s impact on education, ethics, innovation, and the future of work, making the seminar both informative and engaging.

II. Reflections on the Seminar/Activity GiveRise to (Learnings)

The webinar provided a wealth of knowledge regarding the multifaceted implications of AI in education and beyond. One of the key takeaways was the emphasis on the ethical considerations surrounding AI implementation. Dr. Lagman highlighted the importance of ensuring that AI systems are designed to be fair and transparent, which resonated with me as I consider the potential biases that can arise in AI algorithms.

Prof. De Guzman’s insights into the integration of AI in e-learning environments were particularly enlightening. He discussed how AI can personalize learning experiences, making education more accessible and tailored to individual needs. This concept of personalized learning sparked my interest in exploring how AI tools can enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

Dr. Festijo’s discussion on the future of work in an AI-driven world underscored the necessity for continuous learning and adaptation. He stressed that educators must prepare students not only to use AI tools but also to understand their implications and limitations. This holistic approach to education is crucial in equipping future professionals with the skills needed to thrive in an evolving job market.

III. Reflections on Possibilities on Implementing Some of the Seminar Input on a

Practical Level (Practical Application of Learnings)

The insights gained from the seminar can be practically applied in several ways. For instance, I plan to advocate for the integration of AI tools in our curriculum to enhance personalized learning experiences. By collaborating with faculty members, we can explore AI-driven platforms that adapt to students' learning paces and styles, ultimately improving engagement and retention. Additionally, I intend to initiate discussions on ethical AI practices within our academic community. Organizing workshops or forums that focus on the ethical implications of AI can foster awareness and encourage critical thinking among students and educators alike. This initiative could help cultivate a culture of responsibility and ethical consideration in technology use. Furthermore, I aim to incorporate the concept of lifelong learning into my personal development plan. By actively seeking out professional development opportunities related to AI and its applications, I can stay informed about emerging trends and technologies, ensuring that I remain relevant in my field.

IV. Positive Feedback (on the Event Organization)

The organization of the webinar was commendable. The event was well-structured, with a clear agenda that allowed each speaker ample time to present their insights. The use of technology for seamless presentations and interactions contributed to a smooth experience for all participants. The Q&A session at the end of the seminar was particularly valuable, as it provided attendees with the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers and clarify any uncertainties. Moreover, the promotional efforts leading up to the event were effective, as evidenced by the diverse audience that attended. The engagement from participants during the discussions reflected the relevance and importance of the topics covered.

V. Suggestions for Improvements to be Made/Consider for Future Activities

While the seminar was successful, there are a few areas for improvement. Firstly, incorporating more interactive elements, such as breakout sessions or live polls, could enhance audience engagement and facilitate deeper discussions on specific topics. This would allow participants to share their perspectives and experiences in smaller groups, fostering a more collaborative learning environment. Secondly, providing supplementary materials or resources after the seminar, such as recorded sessions or reading lists, could further enrich the learning experience. This would enable attendees to revisit the content and explore the topics discussed in greater depth. Lastly, considering a follow-up session or series of webinars on related topics could help maintain momentum and encourage ongoing dialogue within the community. This would provide a platform for continuous learning and adaptation as the field of AI evolves. In conclusion, the seminar organized by PSITE was a valuable experience that offered significant insights into the role of AI in education and beyond. I look forward to applying the knowledge gained and participating in future events that foster learning and collaboration in this rapidly changing landscape.
